Facilities and Equipment
The GREAT Core laboratory consists of two laboratory spaces: Animal technologies suite and a Molecular Biology laboratory.
The Animal Technologies suite is in the basement of Translational Research Building. The suite consists of four smaller rooms, each approximately 100 Sq Ft. Two of these rooms contain the equipment and two rooms are dedicated for housing animals. The equipment in one of the rooms include two complete workstations for embryo micromanipulation and microinjection. These stations are equipped with inverted microscopes as well as micromanipulators, pneumatic micro-injectors, cameras and monitors. Additionally, there is fully equipped workstation for surgical procedure such as oviductal embryo transfer and vasectomy. The second room has the setup for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and additional equipment such as CO2 incubator and Nikon and Zeiss stereo microscopes.
The Molecular Biology Laboratory room is on the Fourth floor of Guyton Research Building (G462). It includes 450 sq ft of laboratory space. The equipment needed for molecular biology and mouse sperm cryopreservation such as thermal cyclers, wet and dry baths, gel documentation imaging system, micro-centrifuges and gel electrophoresis stations are currently being procured. The lab is equipped with three desktop computers for data collection and analysis.
